Save the climate - travel by coach
Research confirms that the coach, as compared to other means, is relatively ecological, if not absolutely the most ecological means of transportation and that even railway service have higher values, with regard to emission parameters.
People who travel by coach, with an average number of passengers, consume about 0.9 litres of diesel fuel, while the train consumes, depending on the type of train, from 50 to 100% more, or about 1.9 – 2.6 litres, while the automobile requires three times as much fuel! This means that travelling by coach actively protects the environment!
In conformity with the motto “save the climate, travel by coach”, our company has made a commitment in the following ambits:
In order to comply with European norms introduced in 1990, motor producer development divisions have uninterruptedly developed coaches, continually improving the rate of emissions.
Our regular coaches therefore have Euro class 4 or 5 motors, with BlueTec technology, or are equipped with anti-particle filters. Thus, it has been possible to considerably reduce the emission of fine dust and dangerous substances. In this connection, we wish to thank the Autonomous Province of Bolzano for the economic support granted.
But the development of the vehicle industry continues constantly: our coaches not only have Euro 5 engines, but also satisfy the standards for Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicles (EEV) emissions. This standard calls for particle values of about 33% less than Euro 5 norms. This is currently the most severe European directive on coach emissions.
In this manner, we can carry out our task of performing a modern and ecological local public transportation service in the area of the Sciliar Plateau and the Siusi Alps, in as much as they are part of the Dolomites, which is part of humanity’s natural heritage.
Low emission engines or anti-particle filters are truly efficient only if they are maintained regularly, quality lubricants are used, etc.
In our company shop, our coaches are subjected to maintenance at regular intervals, by specialised personnel, in accordance with producers’ indications. This is not only to the advantage of the environment, but also enhances safety!
Ecological motors and regular prescribed maintenance are not sufficient to achieve the level of environmental protection we aspire to. This can be achieved only by succeeding in convincing the greatest possible number of travellers to change from the car to the coach.
Since this concerns mostly local public transportation, we have adopted special measures to reinforce the attractiveness of public transportation in our area in recent years, in collaboration with the Autonomous Province of Bolzano. This includes:
- increasing the number of routes (especially for the Bressanone line, which now has hourly buses)
- the introduction of real time systems at bus stops
- a clear timetable with respect to graphics, the replacement of older vehicles (for example, coaches without air conditioning) with newer and more modern models.
Only interaction with everyone involved (public institutions, tourist operators, coach companies, etc.) has made the success of a sustainable public transportation project possible in a tourist region like ours.
